The story
Miller and banker Charles Augustus Sombart built the hotel in 1905 for $40,000 and named it for his son, Frederick; W.J. Cochran and Sons built it in a Romanesque Revival style. A large addition followed in the 1920s after the Highway 40 Missouri River bridge opened. The Million family leased it until 1964; after the Sombarts sold it in 1973 it served as a weekend restaurant, a Greyhound depot and the Boonville Retirement Center before returning to hotel use near the Katy Trail.
