The story
The DuPont Company began its headquarters on Rodney Square, the DuPont Building, in 1906, and a 1913 addition opened the Hotel du Pont with 150 rooms alongside the DuPont Playhouse. The hotel’s design, by Frederick Godley, J. André Fouilhoux, Joel Barber and Raymond M. Hood, used Italian marble, Caen stone, mosaics, terrazzo and oak paneling, and the National Register nomination quotes the claim that it cost more per room than any other hotel in the world. In 2017 DuPont agreed to sell the hotel to Wilmington developer Buccini/Pollin Group, with its affiliate PM Hotel Group to run it. Today it has 217 rooms and is a Historic Hotels of America member.
