The story

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows built this hall in 1894, as Fargo rebuilt after the fire of June 1893, to a design by the Minneapolis firm Orff and Joralemon, with shops at street level and a ballroom upstairs. In 1915-16 a third story went on, added so carefully that the National Register nomination says it isn’t apparent, and the upper floors became the Hotel Donaldson, a workingman’s hotel. It was remodeled in 1928, turned into apartments in 1974 and closed in 2000. Karen Stoker spent three years restoring the building and reopened it in 2003 as a 17-room boutique hotel, with each room built around the work of one regional artist. It is a contributing building in the Downtown Fargo District, listed on the National Register in 1983. Slainte Holdings, owners of the Blarney Stone pubs, bought the hotel in 2022.
