The story
Built in 1925 by the Starkville Hotel Corporation and designed by N. W. Overstreet, the hotel was the largest building in the original business district. It was named for Chester Jarnigan, president of the Oktibbeha County Chamber of Commerce, and contractor D. D. Thomas & Son of Memphis built it. It became the Stark Hotel in 1940. It was renovated in the 1980s and again in the 2000s, and David and Sukie Mollendor bought it in 1999 and restored the original name.
