The story
Businessmen E.A. Harter and Tilford (HHA spells both ‘Tifford’ and ‘Tilford’) opened Club Casa del Mar in 1926 as an upscale beach club, with a U-shaped plan by architect Charles F. Plummer; at its height it had about 2,000 members. The club closed in the early 1960s. A $50 million rehabilitation reopened it as a hotel in 1997, and it was listed on the National Register in 2000.
