The story
Thomas E. Webster ran away at 16 to join the Union Army in 1864, later studied at Cornell and the University of Michigan, and moved to Bay City in 1874, where he practiced law and was elected Bay County probate judge in 1880. In 1886 he commissioned this Fifth Street house, where he raised his family. He later built the house next door for his daughter Amelia; the two still share a driveway.
