The story
Law partners James E. Blythe and J. E. E. Markley commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design a combined hotel, bank and law-office building, which opened on September 10, 1910. It is the last surviving of the six hotels Wright designed and served as a prototype for Midway Gardens and Tokyo’s Imperial Hotel. The hotel failed and closed in 1925, its upper floors became apartments, and the building stood empty for about 25 years after 1972. Wright on the Park, Inc. reunited it with the City National Bank and finished a full restoration in September 2011; the bank building adds six rooms and its old lobby is the ballroom.
