The story
The hotel stands on the former estate of the Ortiz family, one of Santa Fe’s oldest families. HHA highlights Padre Ramón Ortiz, a priest who sheltered Mexican soldiers and their captives during the 1846 war, sat in the Mexican Congress and voted against the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The hacienda left the family in the late 1800s. Hilton opened the hotel in January 1973, keeping the Ortiz adobes for public rooms (Wikipedia).
