The story

Hotel magnate Walter Schroeder developed the 25-story hotel, designed by the Chicago firm Holabird & Roche, and it opened in 1928 with a simplified Neoclassical exterior and Art Deco interiors. Sheraton took over in 1965, and local businessman Ben Marcus bought it in 1972 and reopened it in 1973 as the Marc Plaza. Hilton began managing it in 1995 as the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. It was renamed Hilton Milwaukee in December 2024 during a renovation of the historic 554-room main tower that finished in January 2026, and the building was listed on the National Register in 2024.
