The story

James W. and Ernest Stevens built the Stevens Hotel to designs by Holabird & Roche, breaking ground in 1926 and opening in 1927 as one of the largest hotels in the world, promoted as a ‘City within a City.’ The first guest to reserve a room was Vice President Charles G. Dawes. HHA reports that every sitting U.S. president since the opening has stayed there. The hotel joined Historic Hotels of America in 2015.
