The story

Norwegian immigrants Martin and Maria Oleson bought a four-room log house from Reverend Andreas Iverson in 1866 and added bedrooms over the years, renting rooms to summer guests from 1893. The building officially became the Hillside Hotel in 1901 as Ephraim turned from lumber and fishing to tourism, and the NRHP nomination describes it as an imposing clapboard building at the foot of the village’s limestone bluff. It was remodeled into a luxury inn in 2002, closed in 2010 and reopened in 2016 under owner Diane Taillon.
