The story
A crew of 56 began building the Heceta Head light station in 1892, with materials shipped in or hauled by wagon from Florence; the light, first lit in 1894, is the strongest on the Oregon coast. The assistant keepers’ house, owned and maintained by the U.S. Forest Service, now operates as a six-room bed and breakfast. Guests get a multi-course breakfast and an afternoon wine and cheese social.
The ghost story
The inn itself tells guests they may get a visit from its 'fabled ghost' Rue in one of the keepers' rooms.
