The story

Hundreds of Prescott residents bought shares at $1 each to build the red-brick Hassayampa, completed in 1927 to designs by the El Paso firm Trost & Trost. It became the cornerstone of downtown hospitality on Gurley Street a block from the courthouse square. The hotel was listed on the National Register in 1979 and joined Historic Hotels of America in 1996. Its Peacock Dining Room still serves guests.

The ghost story

The hotel recounts the legend of Faith Summers, a young bride said to have taken her life in 1927 after her husband vanished; guests and staff report a young woman crying at the end of a bed or in a pink gown in the hallways, and cold spots in her honeymoon suite.
