The story
Foote & Townsend designed the six-story polychrome brick Romanesque building, built in 1894 as the Hotel Majestic and later known as the Hotel Duncan. The 1984 Chapel Street Historic District nomination describes it and nearby Warner Hall as among the first private dormitories built for Yale students and calls both ‘almost entirely intact’. It now operates as Graduate by Hilton New Haven, whose lobby holds Poindexter Coffee and the Old Heidelberg bar (Hilton page).
