The story
Gen. William Jackson Palmer founded Glen Eyrie as his home in 1871. After Palmer died in 1909 his daughters left the estate untouched for several years before selling it. Texas oil man George Strake bought it in 1938, and after the 1949 flood the family put it back on the market. The Navigators bought it as their headquarters in 1953 after raising a $110,000 down payment in six weeks, and it now runs as a conference center and hotel.
