The story
P.J. Gilmore Sr. built the three-story reinforced concrete building in 1926–27, after a February 1926 fire destroyed the Pioneer Hotel and nine other businesses in Ketchikan. Hotel rooms filled the upper two floors, above a cafe and shops. Unlike many downtown buildings it stands on solid rock rather than pilings, and it faces the waterfront and steamship docks. It is one of the few 1920s commercial buildings left in downtown Ketchikan. The grand opening was held on February 20, 1927.
