The story
The property served as an eating house, butcher shop, saloon, hotel and dormitory after it was first deeded in 1863, during the Alder Gulch gold rush. Known as the Anaconda Hotel, it was bought by Charles and Sue Bovey in 1946 as part of their restoration of Virginia City. Bovey Restorations rebuilt its front to resemble the Goodrich House in Bannack, reusing that building’s salvaged columns. An extensive remodel followed in 2016.
