The story
Senator John Percival Jones, a founder of Santa Monica, built a mansion called Miramar on the bluff; razor maker King Gillette bought it after Jones’s death. It later served as a military academy before reopening as the Hotel Miramar in 1921. Later renovations added a wing of guest rooms, 32 bungalows and the Ocean Tower, and Sheraton ran it for a time as the Miramar Sheraton.
