The story
The three-story brick Eagle Cotton Mill was built on the Ohio River in 1884 for textile production; by the 1980s it was the Meese manufacturing complex, and a 1985 National Park Service letter confirmed it stood within the Madison Historic District. Restored with its exposed beams, brick walls and factory windows, it now operates as a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. Its 1884 Bar opened in 2025 and the mill hosted Madison’s first wedding expo that year.
