The story
Stewart’s Dry Goods was one of Louisville’s leading department stores, at Fourth Street and what is now Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The conversion kept the store’s bank of elevators in place and restored original ceilings. A large clock from the store’s entry was preserved, and a wall of orchid tiles recalls the Orchid Tea Room that once operated on the sixth floor. The hotel opened in 2015 with 304 suites.
