The story
Zeb Taylor built the house in the new Myers Park neighborhood, and in 1919 tobacco and power magnate James Buchanan Duke bought it and spent the next three years enlarging it into a mansion. After Duke’s death it passed through other owners, and in 1949 the Cannon family left it to the protection of Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Today it is a 20-room historic inn and event venue set in 4.5 acres of gardens.
