The story
The two-story brick Ohio Block went up in 1906, and its date and name still appear on the parapet. A 1909 city directory listed the Gem Hotel here among a Wells Fargo office, a tailor and a steam laundry, and Q. L. Cooper ran a restaurant, boarding house and second-floor lodging rooms. The building later housed the Courtland Hotel. Barbara Kelly bought the neglected building in 1993, rewired it, gave the guest rooms private baths and turned it into a bed and breakfast. It now runs as the Courtland Hotel & Spa.
