The story
The Salem firm Kinsey and Motley designed the motor lodge in 1959 with cantilevered folded-plate roofs that form a repeating gable motif, a design showing Frank Lloyd Wright’s influence. Two motel buildings, an office with porte-cochere and a pool sit against a steep wooded hillside on U.S. Route 220. Descendants of the original developers ran it continuously as a motel from 1959 until they sold it in 2018. It was listed on the National Register in 2023 and joined Historic Hotels of America in 2026.
