The story
The Colonial Inn opened in 1894 in the Wequetonsing resort community and was named for its first proprietor, a Colonel Eaton (per the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau). Later owners included Ray Brown and his son Tim, who modernized the inn while keeping its character. It has 42 restored rooms with fireplaces, a pool and a bar named ‘1894’, and joined Historic Hotels of America in 2025.
