The story

Builder Silas Merrill built the six-story townhouse in 1867 for a Boston merchant and his family. After a 1998 purchase it went through a year-long renovation that kept the curved staircase, ceiling medallions, moldings and doors, and it opened as Clarendon Square Bed and Breakfast in March 1999. No elevator was installed so the staircase could stay intact, and every guest room is reached by stairs.
