The story

Developer and attorney Chase Ullman opened the Chase Hotel in 1922, and it quickly became the city’s most luxurious hotel; its Chase Club drew nationally known entertainers from 1933 to 1972. Sam Koplar opened the rival Park Plaza next door in 1929, lost it in the Depression, and the Koplars merged the two hotels as the Chase-Park Plaza in 1961. The hotel closed in stages in the 1980s, sat vacant for most of a decade, and reopened in 1999 after a $125 million renovation. It became The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza in May 2017.

The ghost story

Lore told on the Gateway Arch's website holds that a man in a tuxedo, said to be the hotel's builder, walks the halls on quiet nights, and that a red-haired woman in a white dress, said to have leapt from a window on her wedding night in the 1930s, roams the third floor; KMOV reported on Halloween 2025 that the hotel is recognized as haunted.
