The story
Allen Miller Fletcher, a businessman who served as Vermont’s governor from 1912 to 1915, built the stone mansion while a state senator. Boston architect S. F. Page of Fehmer and Page drew on English Cotswold architecture, using gneiss quarried on site and California redwood. HHA says it was the first home in Vermont fully wired for electricity and equipped with an elevator, and Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. designed the grounds. It joined Historic Hotels of America in 2007.
