The story
English-born brickmaker Albert Bunn made the bricks for this house, and his wife designed it. Bunn had come to Asheville to make brick for the 1876-1903 courthouse and bought land on Clayton Street from Ephraim Clayton around 1879. The mortar joints were penciled to imitate pressed brick, a finish the Chestnut Hill nomination attributes to English tradition. It now operates as a small luxury inn with self check-in.
