The story
After the 1929 merger of the Yuncker Bottling Works and the Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Rubush & Hunter designed the plant and the William P. Jungclaus Company built it in 1931 of brick and glazed terra cotta, with brass, marble and terrazzo inside. Additions followed in 1941 and 1949–50, and by 1954 it was the largest Coca-Cola bottling plant in the world, turning out 2,352,000 bottles a week. Bottling ended in 1964, and Indianapolis Public Schools used the complex as a central kitchen and warehouse. It reopened as the Bottleworks Hotel, with Landmark, Gilded and Timeless rooms in the original wing.
