The story
Carpenter W.A. Huggins built the motel for rancher Ted Jones; it was begun before World War II and completed in early 1942. After Jones and his wife died in a 1950s plane crash, Lillian Redman bought it and ran it for decades, and the motel and its owner became icons of Route 66 lore. Its rooms come with attached garages, which the nomination singles out as part of its early tourist-court character.
