The story
The nine Benbow siblings bought land along the South Fork Eel River in 1924 and hired San Francisco architect Albert Farr, designer of Jack London’s Wolf House, to build a Tudor Revival hotel. Hotel Benbow opened in 1926 and became a stop for motorists on the new Redwood Highway, including Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy per HHA. John and Teresa Porter and Jack Macdonald bought it in 1994 and restored the rooms and terraces.
