The story
Theodore F. Davidson, a former North Carolina attorney general and later Asheville mayor, built Beaufort Lodge around 1895, and the Chestnut Hill nomination calls it the most imposing structure in the district. The shingled Queen Anne house sits about 200 feet back from North Liberty Street under oaks and pines. It was in poor repair when bought in 1977 and was then rehabilitated, a restoration the 1983 nomination praised.
