The story

George Barksdale, a wealthy planter and one-time member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, bought the land in 1778. His nephew Thomas Barksdale built the townhouse, which he sold in May 1817; it then had many owners. Though it looks Victorian, the inn describes the house as Regency style of the Federal period.
