The story

Local rancher and pharmacist Charles P. Balch built the hotel in 1907 to a design by F. M. Andrews, and it opened on January 17, 1908 with rooms at 50 cents to $1.25 a night. It advertised hot water in every room, electric lights and steam heat, sharing Dufur’s limited power supply with the town sawmill. The hotel has stayed in use since it was built and now runs as a boutique inn with Bistro 1907.
