The story
Lazrus Baer, a Jewish immigrant from Germany, built this large brick house in 1870 for his wife Leona and their children on the prosperity of his dry goods store, Baer and Brothers, established in 1865. The nomination calls it an Eastlake house on an L-plan, with fish-scale shingles, carved vergeboards and an unusual two-story clapboard outhouse. The inn says the house had a grand ballroom, where breakfast is now served.
