The story
Moses and Anna Kearns Johnson built the hotel in 1892 on the western edge of Springville’s commercial district, a few blocks from the railroad depot; Moses was a son of town founder Aaron Johnson. William Henry and Loretta Chase Kearns bought it in the early 1900s, added the two-story rear wing and ran it as the Kearns House until 1937; Loretta and her son Howard painted works now held by the Springville Museum of Art. It operated over the decades as the Manitou, Valley Tavern and Valley hotels, later as a bed and breakfast, and reopened in 2022 after renovation as an inn of eleven suites.
