The story
Broken Bow’s Public Service Club conceived the hotel in late 1927 and raised the money through a sales campaign. High school student Helen Roberts won the contest to name it. Built by C. E. Atwater & Company of Grand Island at a cost of $81,500, it was ready to open on December 27, 1928, with 53 rooms, two stores, a barber shop, a dining room and a beauty parlor. A 1931 addition along South E Street added 20 rooms. The hotel describes its rooms today as apartment-style units with kitchenettes.
