The story
John Smith built the T-shaped, two-story hotel in 1924 from brick molded and fired on site, making it the first brick hotel in Red Boiling Springs, a resort town known for its mineral waters. First called Smith’s Brick Hotel, it became the Counts Hotel under Henry Counts, a 32-room hotel where big-band orchestras played; private baths and electricity were added to each room in the 1940s. It was renamed Armour’s Hotel in 1991, and the hotel says it keeps the only mineral bath still operating in Tennessee.
