The story
The McArthur brothers set out in the mid-1920s to make Phoenix a resort destination, and Albert Chase McArthur designed the Arizona Biltmore with a strong Frank Lloyd Wright influence. It opened on February 23, 1929, and after the stock market crash that year it passed to William Wrigley Jr., whose family owned it until selling to the Talleys in 1973. A six-alarm fire struck during renovations in 1973; crews rebuilt for 81 days to reopen for the season. Guest wings were added from 1975 (Paradise Wing) through the early 2000s, and the hotel says it has restored the 15 individually designed cottages original to the resort.
