The story

Col. Andrew Ege and his wife Margaret began the Greek Revival mansion in 1844 on her family’s 420-acre Taneytown estate, hiring Baltimore builder Benjamin Forrester and sculptor William Henry Rinehart, and named it for her family’s ancestral home in County Antrim, Ireland. Ege ran the estate as a slave plantation before going bankrupt; George Washington Clabaugh bought it in 1873 and his descendants held it until 1965. Dort and Richard Mollett bought the mansion in 1988 and made it a country house hotel.
