The story
The hotel says the Spanish colonial government opened a boarding school and orphanage for boys on the site in 1792, which burned in one of the city’s 1790s fires. A U.S. federal courthouse followed, where General Andrew Jackson was held in contempt and fined $1,000 in 1815 for keeping martial law in force after the Battle of New Orleans. The courthouse was demolished and the present building went up in 1890.
The ghost story
The hotel calls itself one of the most haunted in New Orleans. It says a boys' boarding school and orphanage on the site burned with five boys inside, and guests report being woken by the laughter of a ghost boy they call 'Armand'.
