The story
Patrick Hurley, a Tulsa lawyer who became Herbert Hoover’s Secretary of War, built the nine-story Ambassador as his only commercial building; it opened in April 1929 as an apartment hotel for oil executives and their families. Delbert Development converted it to a commercial apartment hotel in 1960, it later housed retired seniors, and it closed in 1987. Paul Coury and investors bought it in 1999 and began a $5.5 million restoration. It joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection in 2014.
