The story

Dr. Edward E. Hazlett, who opened Abilene’s first hospital, built the house in 1887. His son Edward “Swede” Hazlett was a boyhood friend of Dwight D. Eisenhower and urged him to attend West Point. Attorney Arthur Hurd bought the house, and a 1920–21 remodel nearly doubled its size and added the Colonial Revival porch. It was converted to eight apartments after 1945. Don and Diana McBride bought it in 1992, converted the attic into a suite and restored the house, and it has run as a bed and breakfast since.
