The story
The inn occupies the 1897 Wallace Smith Mansion in downtown Beaufort, which took its first overnight guests in 1920 and was renamed The Beaufort Inn in 1930. The property has since grown to include cottages, courtyard guest houses and flats around its gardens. A proposal to add 72 rooms on a lot across the street reached the South Carolina Supreme Court in 2025.
