The story

The name comes from the vendue masters (auctioneers) who worked the waterfront at Prioleau’s Wharf. During the Civil War the site served as a warehouse for blockade runners, and afterward as a fishing-industry warehouse where sailors’ demand led to its first accommodations. Avocet Hospitality bought the Vendue Inn in 2012 and the neighboring Anchorage Inn in 2013, closed for a $5.5 million renovation and reopened in 2014 as an art-focused hotel; 26 Vendue reopened as The Enclave in 2023.
