The story
Los Angeles attorney Fred Horowitz chose the corner of Marmont Lane and Sunset Boulevard in 1926 for an apartment building modeled loosely on France’s Château d’Amboise. Designed by Arnold A. Weitzman and William Douglas Lee, it was completed in 1929. It became a long- and short-term home for actors, writers and musicians and was named a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1976.
