The story
Designed by Fisher, Lake & Traver in Spanish Colonial Revival style, the Roosevelt opened in 1927 on Hollywood Boulevard. It hosted the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929, and Marilyn Monroe’s former room overlooking the Tropicana Pool is now the ‘Marilyn Suite.’ The hotel declined in the 1950s as owners covered up original features, then Radisson spent about $35 million restoring it, and later owners invested more than $30 million.
