The story

Civil engineer Christopher Columbus Miller opened the adobe Glenwood Cottage as a boarding house in the 1870s, and his son Frank A. Miller made its adobe bricks and later took it over. In 1902 Miller opened the Mission Wing by Arthur Benton, renaming the business the Glenwood Mission Inn and then the Mission Inn, and he kept building until it covered a whole city block by 1931. After Miller’s death in 1935 his daughter Allis Hutchings ran it until 1956; the City of Riverside’s redevelopment agency later bought it and set up the Mission Inn Foundation.
