The story

Lumberman William Kelley built the house in 1882 as a wedding gift for his daughter Daisy MacCallum. Daisy moved the house to its present site after the 1906 earthquake and hosted artists and intellectuals there until her death at 94 in 1953. It now operates as an inn and restaurant whose rooms include a gourmet breakfast.
