The story
William G. Barrett, a Vermont lumberman who became secretary-treasurer of the San Francisco Gas and Electric Company, built the three-story Italianate mansion in 1885. After the family left in 1906 it became a stopping place for travelers. Landslides in the early 1970s threatened it until John Mays bought and saved it in 1976, and Pink Floyd stayed here on its first American tour in 1967. After a bankruptcy around 2009, Richard Hollander bought it in 2010 and restored it.
